A rare day with cotton trousers. WIWT Jun 12, 2013
Once a staple of my wardrobe, cotton chinos are now loosing out to wool and linen trousers (depending on season). I still own a few pairs but mostly use them for casual outfits on weekends (they are, after all, very comfortable).
The trousers in the pictures above, which are arguably the most formal chinos I own (high-waisted, creased and with 2” cuffs), still feel almost too casual to pair with a jacket and tie. They also wrinkle like crazy (which is not such an attractive feature in chinos compared to linen trousers) and therefore require constant ironing to look sharp. Nevertheless, I really like the dark-sand colour of these trousers and I think it goes very well with the darker browns of SC worn in the pictures.

I am not a big fan of striped ties (aka regimental ties due to their association with British regiments) as I usually find them somewhat boring. In fact the tie in the pictures is the only such tie I own and this is also the first time I have worn it. However, after seeing these pictures I am rather pleased with how it looks. Maybe not so much that I go on a shopping spree for striped ties, but probably enough that I should make an effort of picking up one or two more.

At yesterdays doctoral award ceremony with my lovely wife.
In Sweden and Finland the laurel wreath is awarded to new doctors of philosophy, marking the achievement of the highest academic degree, and is a tradition that dates back to at least the mid 1800s. While the laurel wreath is usually associated with victory and heroism, it’s association to academic degrees actually stems from a misrepresentation of the medieval academic degree Baccalaureus (from which the current Bachelor’s degree is derived). So, even while the medieval degree contains the part Laurus (which happens to be the Latin name for laurel) it actually has nothing to do with laurels but is rather just a re-Latinization of bachelor, which in this case just meant “young man”.

An unusually diverse mix of materials today - linen trousers, cotton shirt, silk/cashmere jacket, wool socks, calf skin shoes and of course silk tie and PS :)
White trousers definitely means summer to me and since we have had a few sweltering (by Northern Scandinavian standards) days here I decided to break out my white trousers. I am a sucker for the combination of white and navy, so I paired them with a navy blazer (although the blazer has been hanging on the back of my chair for most of the day).
