One of the drawbacks of custom-made clothing is that it usually takes a while from you order them until they are actually ready. Sometimes that can lead to rather unfortunate consequences - like this three-piece tweed suit I ordered quite awhile ago. Due to some issues with a number of measurements, the suit got slightly delayed and only arrived last week - just when tweed-season basically is over.

The suit is MTM by Bladen, made up in a 15oz (430g) cloth taken from Porter and Harding’s Glenroyal book (#44511 to be specific). Given the weight of the cloth, it will definitely be too warm to wear in only a few weeks. So I will only get to wear it at most one more time and then it will go into storage with the rest of my winter weight suits, only to be brought out again come autumn. Luckily summer is pretty short up here :-)

Nevertheless, I had to try it out today to see what, if anything, that needs to be adjusted. So far, I’m pretty happy. I might have the waistcoat taken in a tad bit, but that is pretty much all.

Cashmere Wednesday, WIWT Apr 10, 2013

Lots of soft fuzziness today, with a 100% cashmere SC, a new silk/cashmere from Vanda, and a wool PS. Also, I got tired of waiting for spring and decided to wear a new pair of cotton chinos that have been hanging unused in my wardrobe for a few months. Now if only the temperatures would cooperate as well……

As casual as this Friday gets, WIWT Mar 8, 2013

As nice as this wool challis tie is, it is rather narrow (about 8cm or little over 3”) and it is hard to tie a good knot with it. Now that I wear ties almost daily, I have come to appreciate larger and fuller ties. Since I’m rather tall, ties narrower than 9cm (3.5”) look rather flimsy on me. Wider ties are not very common today as the most popular width appears to be around 8cm. Only a few makers proves wider ties, such as Drake’s that have a small selection of longer and wider ties. Another tie maker that provides wider ties and that I really like is Marinella, but those can sometimes be hard to find online. Alternatively, custom tie makes such as E.G. Cappelli or Sam Hober can to make ties to your exact specifications (Drake’s also has a bespoke tie operation).

District checks or gun club? I remain puzzled…
